Arcade Fire Department receives $64,572 in funding through grant program

posted by Julia Ferrini in Wyoming County, announcements, Arcade.

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) recently announced $64,572 in federal funding for the Arcade Fire Department. The grant was awarded through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The program is designed to help first responders improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.

“Our firefighters consistently put themselves in deadly environments and critical situations to protect their fellow neighbors,” Collins said. “It is imperative our firefighters are suited with reliable equipment when fighting fires, and departments here in New York’s 27th Congressional District have utilized the AFG program to get the funding assistance they need to keep their members safe. I was proud to work with the Arcade Fire Department to secure this crucial $64,572 in AFG funding and thank them for their service.”

The fire department will use this $64,572 federal grant to purchase 20 sets of turnout gear and bailout kits. The new turnout gear will provide members with durable equipment that maintains breathability and mitigates fatigue and heat stress. In the event a fire emergency grows out of control, the new bailout kits will offer its members  life-saving solutions. For example, the kits contain the tools necessary for safe, fast and reliable bailouts.

“On behalf of the Arcade Volunteer Fire Department, the Village of Arcade, and Town of Arcade we are excited to accept this grant,” said Chief of the Arcade Fire Department Tom Beiersdorf. “It will help ensure the safety of our members so they can do their job and protect our community. We will continue to work with Congressman Collins to proactively apply for federal grant funding for needed equipment.”

The AFG program provides direct funding assistance to fire departments, State Fire Training Academies, and non-affiliated EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities. The funding also helps more effectively protect the health and safety of both the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
