Arcade Police officer injured during foot pursuit of suspect

posted by Julia Ferrini in Wyoming County, crime, news, Arcade.

Springville resident Justin C. Prouty was jailed after attempting to escape custody of an Arcade Police officer.

Prouty was arrested July 10 on a warrant from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office on two felony charges. Following a search, officers say they found a hypodermic syringe/needle and a marijuana glass smoking pipe.

While being processed at the Arcade PD, his handcuffs were taken off so he could be fingerprinted. At that time, officers say Prouty ran out the station door and a foot pursuit ensued.

He was quickly caught in the parking lot of the Arcade Elementary School across the street from the Police Station. During the chase, an assisting Arcade officer sustained a foot injury and was taken to the emergency room at Wyoming County Community Hospital for treatment. He was later released.

Prouty was subsequently charged with: possession of a hypodermic instrument; unlawful possession of marijuana; assault in the second degree resulting in injury to a police officer while performing his duties; and escape in the second degree.

He was arraigned in Arcade Justice Court and put in Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is due in Arcade Court at a later date.
