There are those rare occasions where I am truly "riding shotgun" during my photo excursions. This latest post is one of them.

It all started with a flat tire and my need to go to the grocery store.

Needless to say, a text to a friend, a nice day, and almost two hours later, we finally made our way to the store. But not until after driving on a few unfamiliar, "limited maintenance" roads ridin' shotgun somewhere in East Wyoming County.

One of my favorite memories as a kid was playing in the leaves. This, of course, could only be done after we raked them first. Although we didn't really like to rake, the end result provided endless fun during the autumn. Enjoying a fine November day in Perry.

It was a beautiful day to slow down a bit and capture a few images of the changing leaves. While summer is my favorite season, I do love the smell and splash of color during autumn. I was ridin' shotgun somewhere in Attica.

I can not recall ever really seeing a cloud pattern like the one above. I don't think I would ever tire of watching the clouds. Their shapes and the patterns they create have always captivated me. I was ridin' shotgun somewhere in Eagle.

I couldn't contain my excitement when I finally found the eagle's nest on Lake Road in the Silver Springs and Perry area. (Now if only my friend would let me borrow his 700mm zoom lens.) The eagle was watching over its youngster as it tested its wings.

Below was photographed on my way to Arcade later that day. I typically have to leave at least a half hour earlier to any appointment I have because there will never be another day, another time, where a scene will look exactly the same. There are those times where committing the beauty to my memory is sufficient, however, those times when it simply takes my breath away...Those are the times I need to take out the camera and do my best to capture it.

I was ridin' shotgun on a Saturday afternoon in Wyoming County.

I had to laugh when I came upon these sheep happily grazing the other day. The thought in my head at that moment was "a few of these guys in the yard and we wouldn't have to fix the lawn tractor." I was ridin' shotgun somewhere around Attica.

Every time I see horses, well sometimes anyway, I end up singing "a horse is a horse, of course of course, a horse is a horse of course" in my head. I remember my dad singing that any time we saw a horse when we were kids.

There are those times, when I have an assignment, that I actually allow myself plenty of time to get from point "A" to point "B." On this particular day, I didn't want to pass up an opportunity to take the long way. There are so many roads in the county that I have yet to venture on, but I do enjoy getting myself purposely misplaced on occasion. I was ridin' shotgun, getting misplaced.

I've always found it interesting, watching the progression of spring. If I'm homebound for a day or two then venture out, it amazes me how quickly nature had changed. One of the things I like most about the county is the topography. It was one of the things I had missed most when I lived in Delaware. On Route 896 in the New Castle County, the northernmost county in the state, there is a "hill." Whenever I would crest the hill, I swear I could see Sussex County, the southernmost part of the state.

I was ridin' shotgun somewhere between Eagle and Varysburg.

One of my favorite times to shoot is just as the sun is beginning to set. I like the play of colors as it dips lower in the sky. On a side note, I have never seen a turkey in the wild (at least I think it was a wild turkey) all puffed up! I thought that was pretty neat. I was ridin' shotgun somewhere in the southeastern corner of Wyoming County.

I had to laugh when the ox, that I'm guessing weighs several hundred pounds, ran away from me when I got out of the vehicle to get a photo. The horses, on the other hand, more specifically the brown one, had no fear of me and decided he was going to strike a pose – several of them. The turkeys, well, let's just say I will not make a very good hunter. Try as I might, I couldn't get close enough to them before they took flight. I was ridin' shotgun somewhere along the western fringe of Wyoming County.

Today I discovered a roller coaster of a road, and I of course had to see where it went. Unfortunately, as soon as I turned onto the road I promptly forgot its name. However, it did lead me to a few interesting areas of the county and an up-close-and-personal encounter with a few cows.

The cows were hesitant of my presence at first, however, after a few minutes they ventured a bit closer to me. (It still amazes me how large they are.) With that being said, a good friend of mine would generally laugh at my lack of country knowledge. In all fairness though, I have given her ample ammunition to poke fun at me. This city slicker was ridin' shotgun somewhere between Pike and Portageville.
